LockedIn

In April of 2017, I suffered a massive stroke that left me unable to move, speak, make facial expressions, or even react to anything.

I had what is called ‘Locked-in syndrome’. Locked-in syndrome, also known as pseudo-coma, is a condition in which the patient is aware, but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for vertical eye movements and blinking.

Touching on themes of health, identity, and resilience, LockedIN explores the time period I spent with locked-in syndrome, during which I remained in what I can only describe as a ‘state of bliss’, completely unafraid despite being unable to communicate.
